PHASE Three:
Schematic design
Seeking inspiration by exploring the possibilities
In this phase we begin a dialogue in sketch form, exploring the project goals in terms of plans and elevations. The first drawings may simply be a “conversation starter”, where the client reacts to the design, pointing out likes and dislikes. Throughout the ensuing meetings and conversations, the founding principles of the design will take shape. Often, a series of designs are reviewed in sequence, each one building on the previous one until the final design is arrived at. This phase is often fluid, allowing the architect and client to explore a wide variety of design solutions, seeking to find the one that equally solves the pragmatic concerns while providing an inspirational response.
